Krafty Page ChronicleS Issue 3

I went through multiple directions before settling on this one. Some concepts were cleaner. Some leaned heavily into culture. Others pushed symbolism further. Each had strength, but something was missing. They showed the result of transformation without fully honoring the process that creates it.

That is where the butterfly became important to me. Most people see the wings first. They see color, movement, freedom, and arrival. I see those things too, but my mind goes back to the cocoon. I think about the hidden stage where nothing looks impressive from the outside. The part where change is happening without applause, without witnesses, and sometimes without certainty.

That cocoon can exist anywhere. In any field. In any culture. In any neighborhood. In any family. In any country. It can form around grief, ambition, displacement, faith, failure, love, pressure, or discovery. Growth is not limited by where it begins. What matters is what is being shaped inside.

What Issue 3 Means to Me as Founder and Editor

As Founder and Editor, I do not see Krafty Page ChronicleS as a place where work simply gets collected. I see it as a meeting point. The responsibility is not only to publish voices, but to create enough space around those voices that readers can encounter them with dignity, context, curiosity, and respect.

This issue brings together poetry, prose, visual art, photography, music, and cultural perspectives from people who do not all come from the same place or see the world in the same way. That difference is not an obstacle to the issue. It is the reason the issue exists.

The editorial work behind Issue 3 also reflects collaboration. Võ Thị Như Mai serves as Co-Editor, and the connection between KVI Network and Nhịp Điệu Việt — The Rhythm of Vietnam expands the conversation across borders. For me, that collaboration reinforces the central idea of this edition: transformation becomes more meaningful when we allow another person’s perspective to challenge the limits of our own.

The Part We Do Not Always See

People often celebrate visible change: the finished book, the published poem, the healed relationship, the new identity, the achievement, the flight. But most transformation begins where nobody is looking.

It begins in doubt. In revision. In uncomfortable questions. In the moment when an old version of us no longer fits, but the next version is not fully formed. That space can feel uncertain because it does not look like progress yet. The cocoon taught me that hidden does not mean inactive.

That is what I hope readers carry into Issue 3. Do not only look for the polished ending. Pay attention to the pressure that shaped the voice. Pay attention to the culture behind the metaphor. Pay attention to the memory underneath the image. Pay attention to what a person had to translate in order to be understood.

For me, Metamorphoses is not simply about becoming something new. It is about understanding what transformation costs, what it protects, what it reveals, and what it refuses to erase.

A Question for the Reader

We are all becoming something. The more difficult question is whether we are paying attention to what is shaping us while we change.
