In the cities of Mesopotamia
Oyo
The beginnings of civilization start here
We were taken from our lands
Beaten within an inch of our lives
Our women degraded
Our men slaughtered
Civil rights took center stage
Martin and Malcolm front and center
Lives taken, voices silenced
Jim Crow the law of the land
Modern days and times
Unadulterated hatred and killing.
One man took a knee to bring attention
The rhetoric is deafening
Our lives are an enigma inside of a conundrum
We fear not only the police, but our own as well
From the days of the pharaohs
To Kaepernick and Black Lives Matter
This is our HIStory

HIStory is a powerful reminder of the resilience and struggles of our people throughout time. From the plains of Africa to the fight for civil rights, and now the battles of modern days, our story is one of pain, triumph, and unyielding strength. Reflecting on this journey, I am reminded of the importance of preserving our legacy, honoring the voices that spoke for justice, and confronting the injustices that still persist. It is a testament to who we are and the battles we continue to fight—for ourselves and future generations. This is not just history; it is our HIStory, written with pain but carried with pride.
